The landscapes of Baja Sur are majestic mountains, cacti-filled desert, and deep blue ocean. It is filled with little treasures at the end of dirt roads, like taco stands and teepee-style hostels. To get the most out of B.C.S., you definitely need a car as taxis are expensive and there’s a lot of spots to check out on this little peninsula!
Mexico is definitely way more expensive than I had imagined, but luckily food and beer are still cheap. Here are some examples of what you can expect to pay.
Accommodation
Todos Santos Hostel- Dorms $19, Privates $45
Motel- $25 (500 pesos)
Food & Drink
Beer- $1-2 (15 pesos) in stores, $2-3 (35-40 pesos) in bars
Tacos- $1-2 (20-30 pesos)
As you will see from the pictures, we drove from the airport to Todos Santos, and when we weren’t hanging out in the little town we were surfing at Los Cerritos, a nearby beach with good waves. After this we headed to La Paz, where you can get a boat to snorkel with whale sharks which the area is famous for. The Sea of Cortez is loaded with beautiful marine life. Read about my experience with whale sharks here!
We also checked out Bay of Belandra, which is a short drive from La Paz and has a lovely beach with crystal clear, shallow water for what feels like goes for miles. After this we drove down to a town called Los Barrilles, which was essentially an expat retirement community which we were unaware of. It was so trippy to be in the grocery store and be surrounded by other white people when you’re in Mexico. This town is famous for kite surfing if you’re into that! Anyway, enjoy the pics, Mexico is beautiful and Baja California Sur is just a short flight from the U.S, and also very safe!
